  • 2 yellow onions (thinly sliced)
  • 6 garlic cloves (minced or grated)
  • 1 tablespoon smoked paprika
  • 1 tablespoon avocado oil (or any oil)
  • 1 tablespoon blackstrap molasses
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds (or 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • 2 cups freshly diced tomatoes (roma or any kind)
  • 1 cup BBQ sauce

Preparation

Step 1

If using dried beans, soak the beans in water overnight or at least 8 hours. Drain the beans then cover with cold water in a large pot over high heat. Bring to a boil, cover, then reduce the heat to a simmer. Simmer the beans for 1 hour or until fork tender. Drain, then set aside. If using canned beans, move on to next step.

Step 2

Preheat oven to 350°F. In a large pan or dutch oven, add the beans, onion, garlic, paprika, oil, molasses, cumin, salt, garlic powder, onion powder, tomatoes and BBQ sauce. Stir well to combine.

Step 3

Bake for 40 minutes or until all is thickened and creamy. Let cool for 10 minutes before serving. Enjoy!
