Preparation
Step 1
Preheat the oven to 400F and line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.
Step 2
Place the pretzels in a ziplock bag and crush using a rolling pin or similar blunt object.
Step 3
Transfer to a bowl and mix with melted butter and sugar.
Step 4
Spread the pretzels on the baking pan and bake for 8-10 minutes or until they turn a deep golden color.
Step 5
When they’re fresh from the oven, toss on the baking sheet to ensure the pretzels are still evenly coated in the butter. They’ll appear wet at first, but will harden and crisp up as they cool.
Step 6
Butter the entire inside of an 8×8 baking pan and set aside.
Step 7
In a large bowl, combine the cereal, strawberries, pretzels, and extra 1 cup of marshmallows if using.
Step 8
In a large pot over medium heat, melt the butter and 10 oz of marshmallows.
Step 9
Once smooth and melted, remove from heat and stir in the vanilla and salt.
Step 10
Pour the bowl of dry mix into the marshmallow mixture and gently fold to coat.
Step 11
Scoop the marshmallow treat mix into the baking pan and press tight and even. It helps to spritz your hands with some nonstick spray and then pat everything smooth.
Step 12
Allow the treats to cool at room temperature for about an hour, then slice and enjoy!

Chef's notes
These rice krispie treats are incredibly easy to make but require a few tips for the best results
For measuring, use level scoops for rice cereal and strawberries, but heaping cups for pretzels.
Watch the pretzels closely while roasting to avoid burning.
Consider adding whole marshmallows for gooey pockets of marshmallow.
Make sure the dish is well-buttered to prevent sticking.
